Towards the end of 2025, we received a very special and deeply moving request.
A previous customer contacted us with a sensitive and emotional enquiry. They had recently lost their son and were struggling to find a way to keep his ashes that felt right for them. Their son had loved our water features and had spent many peaceful hours sitting in his parents’ garden, watching and listening to the flowing water.
Mark and Liz wondered if it might be possible to adapt one of our water features so their son’s ashes could be kept within it.
Of course, we were only too happy to help.
Our water feature spheres are uniquely constructed from ringed sections and assembled on site. This meant we were able to place an urn inside the sphere before it was fully put together.
The most important consideration was ensuring the ashes would remain completely dry. Mark sourced a watertight time capsule, which we then placed inside a section of piping for extra peace of mind. This provided an additional protective barrier against any water ingress.
There is ample space inside the water feature to securely house the adapted, watertight urn. While we would normally glue all the layers together permanently, in this case we deliberately left the top layer unglued, allowing the ashes to be retrieved in the future should the family ever wish to do so.
The ashes were transferred into the time capsule in their own time, privately and with only family present, allowing them space during such an emotional moment. On installation day, Jeremy carefully placed the capsule inside the piping within the water feature.
The finished water feature now sits on the family’s patio, where they gather to eat, talk, and share drinks together. In this way, their son and brother is still with them during family moments—just as he always was.
